In Uganda, a well-organized gang targeted tech-savvy professionals by posing as clients needing urgent IT services. A young IT consultant in Kampala was contacted by a supposed business owner who claimed his office network had crashed and urgently needed repairs. When the consultant arrived at the office, he was asked to leave his laptop, phone, and other devices for diagnostics while they went to discuss payment. As soon as he stepped out, the so-called client vanished with his expensive equipment, leaving the consultant without his tools and data.
